Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

We went there at night to see the lava, but we didn't bring torchlight, luckily a couple that just finished the trip gave us theirs, it's so wonderful .... We used it to climp up the hills, took us about half an hour if I remember correctly.

The above is the lava, the closest we can get to, it's hot, I can feel the heat under my sandal, and there's a sign to stop people from going further.

Next day, we continue our exploration to the park, to the Halemaumau Trail.

This is the Halemaumau crater. Too bad, our camera can't accomodate the size of this crater, it's BIG ....

It's smoky, dry and scarce, but has no signs of danger even though it's still an active volcano.

Not sure if you can see the smoke behind me, it's coming out of the same crater, The environment is too smoky, so the picture quality is not good ...

Again, some smoke behind me (prove that the volcanoe is alive, hehe), this park is very large -> 1348 km² ! The reference is available at

Hey, i love that lava pic!! is there any indication or news when the volcano erupt? Then the place would be crowded i guess? Would the volcano erupt suddenly when we are there?

Hi Jenny, thanks for your comment :)

Haven't heard any news about the possible eruption lately, so you still have your chance ;o) & I'm sure there'll many ppl visiting if it's going to happen.

Volcanos don't erupt all of a sudden, there'll be signs, eg. thick smoke started coming out of the crater, animals running away from the mountain etc. I have seen some programs in Discovery Channel, you may check to see if they are still showing that, cheers.

Forgot to mention that some volcanoes erupt months after the thick smoke started coming out, scientist will have an estimation of when they might erupt, so no worries, you should be able to enjoy your trip there without endangering your life :)
